TRB Top 100: 2008 edition

top 100 number one top 100 number one hundred

Ring in the New!

As with the previous two TRB Top 100's, this is a long list of favourite games. My favourite games, that is. As with previous listings, the 2008 edition displays what position the game was in the 2006 listing, either (U), (D), (-), (NE) or even (RE).

The listing will cross-refence games which are freely downloadable from the WoS - the usual WoS icon will be present in the summary text. If the game has been reviewed in either the Awards or Games Reviews section then the game name will be hyperlinked to its' full review.

Again, changing tastes have altered the positions of the games. I've played a lot of games over the last eighteen months. Many are brand new and a lot are older games which I've rediscovered. There's also been a change and clarification of the entry criteria.

#1: Have recently played the game. Sounds obvious, but for this listing I felt that each game must be have been played more than once over the last six-eight months. I haven't kept a tally-chart to work out which game has been played more than another (I'm not that anal). The truly favoured games of mine will have been played a lot more than some which I like but haven't been loaded in a while, ergo, it deserves a higher position.

#2: Personal choice is paramount. I've played a lot of games and I'm fully aware of the 'important' and 'landmark' Speccy titles. As this is a personal listing, it's not one designed to highlight all the greatest and best games across the Spectrums' rich history. Stuart Campbell produced that kind of listing in YS issues 70 - 74 inclusive which is well worth reading in its' own right. The TRB Top 100 hasn't been compiled to replace that.

The full listing, including the number one result, won't be everyone's cup of tea; I'm not expecting that. It's not been designed for approval; it's simply one person's idea of how his favourite Spectrum games look like, if compiled in a chart. Have a read, enjoy the justification and you might find yourself agreeing (or not).

Finally, if you have any suggestions or comments about the TRB Top 100 games in the listing, or the game postitions themselves, click on the Contact button above. Send me a message and I'll add it to a page of comments. Assuming I get any that is ;-)
